Write Brain, Right Brain: Finding Balance Between Strategy & Imagination

Many proposal professionals are creatives at heart. We are writers, artists, musicians, and makers who found their way into a field that blends structure, strategy, and persuasion. This session explores how proposal work doesn’t have to stifle creativity. In fact, it can thrive from it. We’ll discuss how to channel your creative instincts into strategic messaging, compelling storytelling, and fresh approaches to common proposal challenges. We’ll also reflect on the importance of nurturing creativity energy outside of work, and how personal creative practices can sharpen focus, reduce burnout, and inspire innovation both on and off the job. This session will help you reconnect both sides of your brain and learn how to let them work together.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn practical strategies for applying creative thinking in proposal management, such as brainstorming alternative solutions, using visual storyboarding to align teams, and developing more compelling executive summaries and win themes.

  • Discover methods to elevate proposal content by incorporating elements of narrative structure, voice, and tone, drawing from creative disciplines like poetry, fiction, or visual arts to make technical writing more engaging and accessible.

  • Understand the role of personal creative outlets in maintaining energy, reducing burnout, and inspiring innovation in professional settings.

  • Develop strategies for integrating creativity into structured proposal processes without compromising compliance or schedule.
